The pastors and planters of GCC are often asked from various other churches, ministries and people interested in our mission, “What does GCC need to continue planting?”…and this past week, we were responding to an email written to several local pastors who asked that same question. We prayed intently for God to show us what we truly needed (not what we “wanted”), and were able to properly articulate our needs in a clear and concise manor. I wanted to take a moment to share the list of things that Gospel Community Church will be working toward while continuing the process of planting our church, and the physical needs that go along with them. If you would, please prayerfully consider if you or the church/ministry you are connected with could aid in any of the needs within these areas listed below. Furthermore, please pray for GCC and it’s leadership as often as you remember – that we will continue to seek God’s will and His glorification in the planting of this church and not our own.

  1. More Gospel Conversations with Unbelievers – This is the very need of every church in order to carry out the mission that Christ gave us in Matthew 28:19. However, it’s more difficult when you’re focused on reaching a group of people who feel culturally oppressed, neglected by the majority of the population, and don’t easily open up to people outside their own community.

Our needs in this area are as follows:

  1. Maturity and Growth in our Membership – Everyone needs growth and maturity, but it’s especially needed in a church that is reaching people who have never experienced the Gospel or sound biblical teaching until coming to GCC. We have several spiritually mature people in our church, but an abundance of New/Young Believers who need discipling, and there is a lot of work to do in edifying and discipling these new saints within our newly-formed congregation.

Our needs in this area are as follows:

  1. Physical Autonomy / A Standalone Location – Though we are an autonomous entity and a separate church altogether, we are often accidentally viewed as a connected ministry or sub-congregation of Heritage Baptist Church, being that we physically meet in their old chapel and their facility. We DEEPLY love the brothers and sisters in Christ at Heritage Baptist (we can’t stress that enough) and are extremely grateful, appreciative, and humbled by their willingness to sacrificially share their space with us. Furthermore, these kingdom-focused folks have supported GCC in more ways than we could ever list or ever repay at the moment. At some point down the road though, we’ll need to have a space of our own, mainly so that the local community (and the Deaf Community specifically) will better view us as an autonomous, Deaf-Contextualized church. This will also help us overcome certain limitations on space availability, better position us to provide more missional outreaches, and improve our ability to physically contextualize our meeting space to the visual needs of Deaf people.

Our needs in this area are as follows:

At the end of the day, what we need most of all (and what everyone can give) is prayer. We need God to move here in Owensboro, in the Deaf Community as well as in the hearing community, and we need to pray specifically for that as often as we can. GCC needs your intercessions for help in our mission to reach a group of people in their own heart language that wouldn’t otherwise be introduced to Christ and his work on the cross. We need you to pray with us a prayer of thanksgiving for everything that God has done for this church already.  We need you to pray for our leadership, deacons, and our members – that Gospel Conversations will be the focus of our hearts and that we will faithfully pursue more of them. We would absolutely LOVE if you can help with any of the items listed above, and feel free to contact us if you are able….but if not, please at least keep us in your prayers.

Thanks, and God bless!
